The color red is the longest wavelength in the visible light spectrum, and this is why it commands attention: its physical properties make it seem closer and bigger than other colors. Since our founding, since our first Famous Red Axe, the color red has been the longest—and most famous—wavelength in our spectrum.

Our Famous Red Belt is manufactured in the USA and its leather comes to us by way of Wickett & Craig, one of the two remaining vegetable tanners in the USA. This bridle leather will tell a story and will age with grace. Using natural tannins from tree bark and fruits, it eschews chemicals, and will one day biodegrade without harm. We use this leather not merely in our belts but in our axe blade guards and cap straps—a testament to its versatility. Our leather improves with each use, preserving its original grain and texture and developing a rich patina through wear.

Our Famous Red Belt is fabricated in the USA, emblazoned on the inside with our "Be Optimistic" slogan, and fitted with a solid brass single-prong roller buckle secured by brass Chicago screws that allow for easy buckle replacement. This belt is a commitment to simplicity, durability, and craftsmanship.

Vegetable-tanned leather gets its color from natural tannins—tree bark, leaves, and fruits—not harmful chemicals used in other tanning processes. The leather in our belt will ultimately (and safely) biodegrade. That said, this belt will endure. With age, the leather will develop a rich patina. The leather preserves the hide's original grain and texture, offering a natural, tactile beauty. We love vegetable-tanned leather for its simplicity, durability, and honesty.

Wickett & Craig is a testament to the enduring art of vegetable-tanned leather making. Founded in 1867, this venerable leather producer has weathered over a century and a half of change, including a dramatic relocation to Curwensville, Pennsylvania, in 1991. Now one of only two remaining vegetable tanneries in the United States, Wickett & Craig continues to uphold its reputation for producing the highest-quality, eco-friendly leathers prized for their durability and rich patina.
