Vegetable-tanned leather gets its color from natural tannins—tree bark, leaves, and fruits—not harmful chemicals used in other tanning processes. The leather in our belt will ultimately (and safely) biodegrade. That said, this belt will endure. With age, the leather will develop a rich patina. The leather preserves the hide's original grain and texture, offering a natural, tactile beauty. We love vegetable-tanned leather for its simplicity, durability, and honesty.
Wickett & Craig is a testament to the enduring art of vegetable-tanned leather making. Founded in 1867, this venerable leather producer has weathered over a century and a half of change, including a dramatic relocation to Curwensville, Pennsylvania, in 1991. Now one of only two remaining vegetable tanneries in the United States, Wickett & Craig continues to uphold its reputation for producing the highest-quality, eco-friendly leathers prized for their durability and rich patina.
