The fabric in our Small Stripe Ball Cap will be familiar to some. Consult our archive and you'll see it repeatedly and proudly on display. Woven in Okayama, Japan's premier denim-making prefecture, the rich indigo dye makes for a handsome hickory stripe that recalls the most iconic pieces of American work wear. The 8 oz. denim is tough yet lightweight, perfect for all-season use.

The cap is secured by a sturdy Wickett & Craig leather adjustment strap and soft cotton sweatband to keep it secure and comfortable. Emblazoned with a Best Made commemorative “Still Optimistic” merrowed patch celebrating our re-launch, this cap is a proud emblem of our ongoing partnership with some of the finest fabric-makers in Japan.

The Okayama prefecture has emerged as an unlikely epicenter of denim craftsmanship. What began in the 1960s as a pivot from traditional workwear to jean production has blossomed into a globally recognized hub for premium denim. The watershed moment came in 1973 when Kurashiki Spinning produced Japan's first domestically made denim fabric, allowing for end-to-end production in Okayama. This development cemented the region's reputation for exceptional quality, characterized by traditional methods like indigo dyeing and the use of shuttle looms for selvedge denim. Okayama stands as the epicenter of Japanese textile craftsmanship.
