The lambswool in our Cap of Courage comes from a South African sheep known for its exceptionally fine fibers (18.5 microns) that are longer than typical lambswool (21-24 microns), and even finer than most merino wool (19.5 microns). These sheep, raised under high animal welfare standards, develop uniquely soft wool due to the favorable environment in which they are bred and raised.
The wool is processed by an historic yarn manufacturer in Scotland. Beginning with carefully selected raw fibers, it undergoes multiple quality checks before it is dyed. The fibers are blended for color consistency, followed by a carding process. Modern mules spin the yarn using long draws for exceptional roundness and volume, after which it is wound and twisted using traditional methods.
The yarn is knit in Texas on precision Japanese machinery. The caps are knit using a "Whole Garment Knitting" / zero waste technology which results in a seamless construction. To start they are knit in a thicker 2x2 rib cuff, and then an all-over 1x1 rib. The rib narrows down to just a few needles, where it presses off the machine, and is hand-finished.
