The Blackwing 602 is a pencil unlike most any other pencil we've used. Made by Eberhard Faber Pencil Company from 1934 to 1988, Blackwings have been cherished by luminaries like Quincy Jones, Stephen Sondheim, Truman Capote, and Chuck Jones. In an interview with The Paris Review, John Steinbeck praised the 602: "I have found a new kind of pencil—the best I have ever had.” Revived in 2011 and made in Japan, few writing instruments offer such a storied legacy as the Blackwing 602.
Engineered for performance, the Blackwing 602 delivers an exceptionally smooth but firm writing experience. Its graphite offers the perfect balance—comparable to a 2B lead, with superior point retention and the ability to produce dark, rich marks while maintaining an impressive wear rate. Equally adept at writing and drawing, this versatile pencil is an indispensable tool for writers, artists, designers, and anyone who is demanding of the details.
