Story

These small meditation candles are handmade by Takazawa Candle, founded in 1892 and based in the port city of Nanao. Just north of Nanao is Noto Island, famed for its rapeseed blossoms, known as nanohana in Japanese — the bright yellow flowers signaled to sailors that land was near. These candles owe their unique golden hue and subtle scent to the nanohana oil that they’re made with. The wick is a special 16th-century design crafted by winding dried rushes around a hollow cord of washi (Japanese paper.) This enables oxygen to be drawn up from the bottom, creating a bigger, brighter flame — perfect for celebration, reflection and contemplation, or simply to bring a little light on a dreary evening. These Japanese Meditation Candles are notable not only for their quality, but for their unique design, echoing the ancestral relationship between man and nature.
